Expanding Horizons organises twice monthly meet ups at Thames Valley Adventure Playground in Maidenhead. What can only be described as an AWESOME VENUE, the Adventure Playground has to be seen to be believed. The site spreads over 2.5 acres and includes a majestic wooden castle, aerial runway, toddler area, indoor soft play, treetop trail, football area, and all this looking out on the beautiful vista of Taplow lake. We’re not exaggerating when we say that’s not even the half of it. Check out the TVAP website for more info.
Tuesday to Saturday, the site provides opportunities for play and freedom for children and adults with all types of special needs. The lovely people at TVAP have agreed to let us exclusively hire the facility on a Monday afternoon. Our first slot is just for two hours, to give you all a chance to visit this incredible space with minimal outlay. Our intention thereafter is to book for 4 hours on a monthly basis.
Each month we a theme with a whole group activity followed by a choice of workshops around the theme. More information about themes can be found ahead of time at:
11.00 – 11.30: Whole group activity.
11.30 – 12.30 : Choice of workshops.
12.30 – 2.30 : Freeplay & possible extended activities around the theme.
2.30 – 3pm. Clean the site for exit at by 3pm – all must help pls.
Since September 2016 the team at TVAP have been running structured activities at the beginning of each Home Ed session. The playground, bikes, soft play and other freeplay activities are closed until 12.30
If you are on site between 11am and 12.30 please could you strongly encourage your children to engage with these activities. We encourage you to be engaed too, in order to create a focused environment. Those who don’t want to take part should come later in the day. If families had intended to join in but, for whatever reason, it doesn’t work out on the day we suggest adults and children find a quiet spot and engage in a book or similar activity in order to minimise distraction for those who are focused on the structured sessions. We want to support freedom of choice but also embrace the opportunities for group learning and working together.
